SEOUL, March 18 (Yonhap) -- SK Telecom Co. (SKT), South Korea's biggest telecommunications company, said Wednesday its artificial intelligence (AI) data center interconnection architecture has been certified as a global standard by a United Nations-affiliated body.
The International Telecommunication Union's (ITU) telecommunication standardization sector, known as ITU-T, approved SK Telecom's proposal defining interconnection and signaling requirements for data center operations at an ITU-T meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, earlier this month, the company said in a release.
The ITU-T develops international standards for information and communication technologies, with participation from 190 member states and 900 organizations.
The new standard defines interconnection structures and signaling requirements among internal AI data center systems, providing a global technical benchmark for data center operations and service delivery.
"Moving forward, SKT will continue to strengthen its technological competitiveness across AI infrastructure, operations and services through SK Group's capabilities and global collaboration, contributing to international standardization and the expansion of the global AI ecosystem," Choi Dong-hee, head of AI strategy and planning at SK Telecom, said.
