SEOUL, April 1 (Yonhap) -- Samsung Heavy Industries Co. said Wednesday it has secured a 342 billion-won (US$227 million) contract to build two gas carriers for a shipping company based in the Bermuda region.
The company will deliver two very large gas carriers (VLGCs) to the unidentified client by May 2029, it said in a regulatory filing.
With the latest deal, Samsung Heavy has secured orders worth $3.1 billion so far this year, achieving about 22 percent of its annual order target of $13.9 billion, according to the company.
The company added it will maintain its strategy of focusing on higher-margin vessels, such as container ships and liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, this year.
