SEOUL, March 12 (Yonhap) -- South Korea on Thursday issued a special travel advisory for Turkey's southeast region, the foreign ministry said, amid heightened security risks after missiles launched from Iran were intercepted near the border region.
The travel advisory for six locations near Turkey's border with Syria was upgraded to a Level 2 special travel advisory, effective at 9 p.m., the ministry said, noting the measure is issued for areas facing temporary but urgent risks.
The government advised South Korean nationals to cancel or delay travel to the region and urged those already there to pay special attention to their safety.
A Level 3 travel warning -- which recommends Korean nationals to leave -- will remain in place for five regions located within 10 kilometers of the Syrian border, including the southeastern province of Batman.
Iran recently launched ballistic missiles toward Turkey following massive strikes on Tehran and other areas by the United States and Israel. Turkish authorities said North Atlantic Treaty Organization air defenses intercepted the missiles, with debris falling in areas including Hatay and Gaziantep.
