SEOUL, March 15 (Yonhap) -- Kim Gil-li, a recent Olympic double gold medalist in short track speed skating, has claimed a world title in Canada.
Kim won the women's 1,000-meter title at the International Skating Union Short Track World Championships at Maurice Richard Arena in Montreal on Saturday (local time). The South Korean star held off Xandra Velzeboer of the Netherlands and Elisa Confortola of Italy.
At the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics last month, Kim grabbed gold medals in the women's 1,500m and the women's 3,000m relay, and also bronze in the women's 1,000m.

Velzeboer won the 1,000m Olympic gold then, but on Saturday, Kim executed a last-gasp pass over the final corner and just nipped the Dutch skater at the finish line.
Another South Korean skater, Rim Jong-un, won the men's 1,500m title in Montreal on Saturday.
Rim, who won a silver and a bronze at the Olympics, beat out Thomas Nadalini of Italy and Stijn Desmet of Belgium for the victory.
Rim stayed in the back of the eight-man pack early on before moving up to third place in the late stretches. Then over the final lap, Rim made a pass on the outside to grab the gold.
No South Korean reached the final in the men's 500m, with Rim gone in the quarterfinals and Hwang Dae-heon eliminated in the semifinals.
The men's 5,000m relay team, featuring Rim, Shin Dong-min, Lee Jeong-min and Lee June-seo, advanced to the final scheduled for Sunday. The mixed relay team of Rim, Hwang, Kim and Lee So-yeon also qualified for Sunday's final.
The women's relay team of Kim, Lee, Shim Suk-hee and Noh Ahrum will not skate in the final after finishing third in its semifinal heat.
