BEIJING, March 13 (Yonhap) -- China's national carrier, Air China, will resume flights between Pyongyang and Beijing for the first time in six years, industry and diplomatic sources said Friday.
Air China will restart flights from Beijing to Pyongyang starting March 30, the sources told Yonhap News Agency. The direct route will operate once a week.
"A direct Air China flight to Pyongyang departing every Monday starting March 30 was recently approved by Chinese authorities," a diplomatic source said. "It appears to signal that both sides intend to accelerate exchanges."
The route has been suspended since 2020, when operations were halted due to the spread of COVID-19.
China also resumed passenger train services between the two capitals Thursday for the first time in six years.
Trains departing from Beijing will operate four times a week, while trains leaving from the Chinese border city of Dandong will run daily in both directions.
Passenger train services linking North Korea and China began operating in 1954 and have long been regarded as a symbolic transportation link reflecting the countries' relationship.
