NOW PLAYING
The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior urged those in the country to shelter in place for six hours early Wednesday, which overlaps with President Trump’s 8 p.m. EDT Tuesday deadline for the
Iranian government to lift restrictions
on the Strait of Hormuz.
In a
Tuesday post on social platform X
, the ministry instructed Kuwaiti citizens and residents to “remain in their homes and avoid going out, except in cases of utmost necessity” from midnight to 6 a.m. local time Wednesday. Trump’s deadline hits at 3 a.m. in Kuwait.
The “precautionary” measure is “aimed at safeguarding everyone’s safety, strengthening the level of prevention, and enabling security authorities to perform their duties with high efficiency,” the ministry added.
“The Ministry also affirms that this measure is in the context of maintaining security and stability, calling on everyone to adhere to the issued instructions and cooperate with the competent authorities during this phase,” the ministry continued. “May God protect Kuwait and its people, and may He perpetuate upon it the blessings of security and safety.”
Ahead of an 8 p.m. EDT deadline he set, Trump
warned Tuesday
that “a whole civilization will die tonight” unless “something revolutionarily wonderful” occurs.
“A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again,” the president
wrote on his Truth Social platform
, referring to Iran. “I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will. However, now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS?”
“We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World,” he added. “47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, will finally end. God Bless the Great People of Iran!”
While Trump has said that a new regime is leading Iran,
the country’s clerics
elected Mojtaba Khamenei to succeed his father, the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as the new supreme leader last month.
Meanwhile, the Iranian government’s restrictions on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz have rocked the global oil industry, causing prices at the pump to increase in the U.S. The average price of a gallon of regular gas hit $4.14 on Tuesday, more than $0.12 higher than a week ago and more than $0.72 higher than a month ago,
according to AAA
.
