SEOUL, April 9 (Yonhap) -- Hanwha Ocean Co. said Thursday it has secured a 393.3 billion-won (US$266 million) deal to build two very large crude carriers (VLCCs) for a shipper in the Oceania region.
The vessels are scheduled for delivery by Jan. 4, 2030, the company said in a regulatory filing. The client was not disclosed.
Industry officials said global replacement demand for aging VLCCs has been increasing, while freight rates have also risen amid restricted passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
With the latest contract, Hanwha Ocean has won orders for 15 vessels worth a combined $2.84 billion so far this year.
